A birthday
Festivities began the evening before my actual day of birth. A little group of us went out for curry. Never did I think the day would come in which curry would be my birthday meal of choice and yet....it has been growing (significantly) on me. I think I like it so much because it has some sort of 'communal' aspect to it. We all order something that we have a craving for and then somehow you never seem to end up finishing your own meal. Dishes are passed from left to right...a little taste of one dish and a splash of another dish...and before you know it, you are completely and utterly satisfied and find yourself needing a nap of some sort.
The night was complete with a trip to the pub, a paper birthday crown and a happy birthday tune right at midnight.
There was a moment when we were at the pub when I had such an interesting thought. I sat there, watching my friends all having a marvelous time, and couldn't help but think about how truly blessed I am. How delicately beautiful it is that I can go to a foreign country and make an entirely new set of friends. How strange it is that you can meet people and become such good friends with them in a matter of a few weeks. When we all part our separate ways at the end of the semester, we very well might never see each other again. And although I acknowledge that, I still feel so content with each current friendship. How wonderful contentment it.
Sunday morning was peaceful and quiet. Birthdays are really no different than any other day.
In the evening, we wined and dined (complete with cheese from France and authentic Bruschetta)
